Mission

The Granary Rural Cultural Center promotes development of the visual fine arts of rural communities of North and South Dakota, and builds a bridge between artists and the public. The Granary is strongly dedicated to nurture the creative abilities and artistic expression of youth. We aim to generate an active constituency to celebrate the work of local artists, make fine art a part of community life, and advocate strong Fine Arts programs in high school education.

We do this through a program the showcases the original creations of artists of all abilities and provides the public access to their work. The program for high school students is a service in the visual fine arts for critically under-served schools. Students receive a mentoring experience with professional artists, and share an artistic experience with their peers. The Granary gives students recognition for their creative work and rewards them for artistic achievement and excellence.

Also, the Granary is a place that celebrates the land and the culture and heritage of Dakota people through fine art. The theme - "Respect for the land and the people who live on it" - shall be portrayed in the permanent out-door sculpture collection of the Granary's landscape. The Granary is a destination to experience cultural diversity and the environment and contemplate reconciliation.
